Happy Children's Day to the kids in us (:
Very overdue photos from the Wayang at Balestier. I thought of how i'm underusing Jayden, Sigh. I missed the chance to shoot at JooChiat, where the crowds would be, where everyone would be doing their last minute shopping before Hari Raya. Wasted!!!
These were taken one day after the Seventh Month Festival. It's at this lovely Red Temple along Balestier Road, a short distance away from where i stay. I've always wanted to shoot there, even when i was just using my ordinary digital camera. That place reminds me of the times when my grandma would bring me there and there was this special separate room where they kept turtles in a little well.
I was secretly afraid of that room ):
Subject for that night was the wayang show going on, but my dad kept encouraging me to just shoot whatever i thought might make a good photo. Ended up taking alot of other things instead. Stage was difficult to shoot. I'm petite, stage was way high, still stuck with kit lens. here are the photos though (: (Click to enlarge them!)

colourful~

finally a photo of the wayang itself! it was in hokkien, a dialect i could roughly make out because of its similarity to
Teochew (my dialect, and what i use to communicate to my grandma). When the entire show ended at 10pm, i realized i didn't even know what storyline was because i wasn't paying any attention at all.

this is certainly not a good shot, the over exposure, lack of focus and all but there's something that made me shoot it right at the moment.
I remember how wayangs used to be a pretty occasional thing. My grandma would take me and my younger cousin, Clarissa to the Market often enough to watch the teochew/hokkien shows on makeshift stages (think
getai!) I was secretly afraid of those painted faces and shrill voices, though i covered it up well by running around, playing catch with my cousin and the other kids while my grandma enjoyed her traditional pasttime with the neighbours.
I hardly see wayangs going on now anymore, and the crowd at the Temple is but a mere 30? Snapped that photo because that boy there was obviously dragged by his grandma (note: similarity). Absorbed in his PSP while the show is going on, loud, and all. Tech vs. Trad.
OKAY, sorry i don't know why i'm making a big fuss out of it but haha. JUU FOR YOU ;p
